There is no doubt about the necessity of effective and easy to perform methods of physiotherapy in young children suffering from chronic lung disease. The VRP1 is expected to be a helpful tool for physiotherapy but there is a lack of data concerning lung function measurements. We examined 20 children (11 children suffering from asthma and 9 children suffering from bronchiectasis) aged 6 to 16 years. A prospective, randomized cross-over study was performed. A three month period using placebo was compared to 3 month using VRP1. Spirometry, bodyplethysmography and measurement of FRC (Helium-dilution) was performed before the study and every 3 month. Furthermore a standardized questionnaire was used for personal evaluation. RESULTS: In clinical terms 56% of the children -- especially those suffering from bronchiectasis -- feeled to improve while using the VRP1. However, validation of this personal reports by measurement of lung function parameters failed.
