systematic review

INTRODUCTION: Kinesio-Taping (KT) is a method to treat functional impairment and is often used in physiotherapy. In this systematic review, analysis was conducted to establish whether the use of Kinesio-Tape (KT) is an effective way of reducing pain and helping patients with functional spinal impairment and back pain. METHOD: Three online databases (PubMed, Embase, PEDro) were scanned. The studies were selected on the basis of defined inclusion criteria; the quality of this method was assessed using the PEDro scale. RESULTS: The research revealed 52 articles. After close inspection concerning inclusion criteria, seven suitable studies remained. Moderate evidence has been found supporting the reduction of pain and enhanced function after only KT treatment of patients with spinal problems. Also, limited evidence persists that KT in combination with an exercise program acts better on spinal problems than an exercise program alone. CONCLUSION: Since there is not enough evidence proving the effectiveness of KT for patients with back pain, more high quality studies are required.
