BACKGROUND: Tecar therapy is a technology, which recently appeared in the musculoskeletal field. Manufacturers of Tecar therapy devices claim significant effects on rehabilitation, including acceleration of treatment, increased analgesic action and improvement in cicatrization. OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to realize a scoping review about existing evidences on the effect of the Tecar therapy. The second objective was to check the manufacturers' claims. METHOD: A scoping review of the literature on Tecar therapy was carried out. Methodological quality was assessed for randomized controlled trials and controlled trials. RESULTS: Nineteen articles were selected, and methodological quality was assessed for 10 of these. Three articles had satisfactory methodological quality. Articles supporting 4 of the manufacturer's 5 claims were identified. DISCUSSION: The available literature on Tecar therapy is sparse and has low levels of evidence. All the manufacturer's claims are without scientific foundation. While keeping the present review as a basis, it would be interesting in the future to renew it, but improving its methodology. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: 3.
