OBJECTIVE: Aims of the study: the conception, the execution and the evaluation of an exercise programme for reduction of load concerning nursing people caused by occupation of spinal column. SUBJECTS: 56 nurses with chronical backache participated in this examination for at least 3 months. 37 of them took part in a back school over a period of 10 weeks. 19 became integrated into the control group. The classification had been carried out randomised. DESIGN: One hour exercise consisted of: theory, daily motor activity, working motor activity, functional gymnastics and relaxation. A questionnaire had been developed and we started the data by means of technical working carefully with spinal column at the beginning, at the end and after a period of 6 months again. The statistic data concerned had been executed by Wilcoxon- and McNemar-test. RESULTS: A high percentage of these participants made use of this technical working carefully with spinal column in their working lifes. CONCLSIONS: Therefore, in the sense of a primary preventive measure we suggest integrating a back-school -- with reference to the working conditions -- in the educational system of the nursing occupation.
