Thirty-eight patients with chronic, non-specific back pain attending a hospital specialising in rheumatic diseases were studied. The symptomatology of chronic, cold-sensitive back pain is described. In a comparative trial of a lumbosacral corset giving support but little insulation (Remploy) and a proprietary wool body belt giving insulation but little support (Medima), it was found that, as a group, patients were equally well served by the body belt as by the corset.
