Twenty-six venous ulcers were randomly allocated to either the experimental or control group. They were insonated and mock insonated respectively, three times a week for four weeks, being measured weekly and again at eight weeks. When the areas of the ulcers were analysed there was a significant reduction in size for the experimental group from the 14th day (t = 2.71, p < 0.01, df = 12). There was a positive relationship between the ulcer size and rate of healing, the larger ones healing more rapidly than the small (r = 0.92, p < 0.001).
