With the aim of investigating the possible difference in the effect of short-wave and long-wave diathermy, a series of 160 patients suffering from symptoms of osteo-arthritis of the knees and hips was divided into two groups; one group was treated with short-wave diathery and the other with long-wave diathermy. In addition, the ordinary course of therapeeutic exercise was given in both groups. The results obtained showed no differences between the groups. Because the application of long-wave diathermy is much more inconvenient than that of short-wave diathermy there seems to be no reason to make use of this old-fashioned form of treatment.
