Arthrosis in the hip joint is a common problem which often leads to an operation with a total hip replacement. The physiotherapeutic rehabilitation after the operation is performed in many different ways and its importance has been questioned. The purpose of this study was to compare physiotherapist lead group training with home training. Thirty-three patients were randomized into the treatment group (n = 16) or control group (n = 17). The participants were examined before the operation, 8 weeks, and 6 months postoperatively regarding hip mobility, walking ability, occurrence of pain, perceived global quality of life, and ADL function. The treatment group took part in group training twice a week between the 8 weeks and 6 months examinations. The control group trained by themselves according to a home training program. No significant differences were revealed between the two groups in any of the measured variables.
