Patients with chronic arthritis were treated with a low frequency or with the standard ultrasonic frequency without other variables. A significantly greater number of patients who received the low frequency had longer-lasting relief from pain than did those who received the standard frequency. Variation in results appeared to be caused by difference in depth penetration.
