AIM: STG-2000 multi-function wound treatment instrument takes effect through inside electricity generated by revolved interference electric field. To evaluate the curative effect on healing of bone fracture and chronic injury of locomotor system. METHODS: (1) Patients with bone fracture of the arms and legs and the sport system chronic harm, who were treated at the Department of Orthopaedics, Second Affiliated Hospital, Nanjing Medical University from May 2002 to August 2004, were selected. There were sixty patients in fracture group with average fifty years old, including 15 cases of fracture of the femur, 15 cases with fracture of tibia, 15 cases with fracture of humerus, 3 cases with fracture of ulna, 4 cases with fracture of radius and 8 cases with double fracture of radius bone and ulna bone. There were sixty patients in chronic injury of locomotor system group with average forty-six years old, including 15 cases with lumbar muscle strain, 15 cases with peritendinitis, 15 cases with periarthritis of shoulder and 15 with strain of ankle joint. (2) The fracture patients were divided randomly into treatment group with 30 cases. They were treated with STG-2000 multi-function wound treatment instrument (Nanjing Saite Armamentarium Ltd Co). The 4x25 cm2 electyrode was placed around the fracture region. The frequency was 1 to 50 Hz, twice a day. Feeling threshold was 10 minutes each time. Bearing limit was 30 minutes. A period of treatment was 10 times for 4 progresses. Forty in the control group were treated with routine method. The healing time of the two groups was contrasted. (3) Patients with chronic injury of locomotor system were treated with treatment apparatus. The 4x25 cm2 electrode was selected and placed around the focus. The frequency was fixed in 100 Hz when ached and under feeling threshold was 10 minutes. The revolved frequency was 1 to 120 Hz, and feeling threshold was 5 to 10 minutes and under moving threshold was 10 minutes when improved, twice a day, 10 times as a progress for 2 progresses. (4) The healing time of fracture was assessed by x-ray. The curative effect of chronic injury of locomotor system was assessed by the symptoms and improvement rate of local ache, swelling and moving scope of joint, containing healing, obvious efficiency, efficiency and inefficiency. RESULTS: All of 120 patients were involved in the result analysis. (1) The healing time of fracture patients: the mean healing time of treatment group was significantly shorter than that in the control group (3.0 +/- 0.8, 6.0 +/- 0.8 week, t = 2.781, p < 0.05). (2) The curative effect of chronic injury of locomotor system patients: the healing and obvious efficiency of strain of lumbar muscles was 93.3% (13/15). The healing and obvious efficiency of tendon sheath inflammation was 66.6% (10/15). The healing and obious efficiency of periarthritis of shoulder and strain of ankle joint were 66.7% (10.15) and 80% (112/15), respectively. There was insignificant side effect in the therapeutic patients. CONCLUSION: (1) Treatment instrument can quicken the healing speed of fracture and shorten the clinic healing time of fracture. (2) It can ameliorate operatively the ache, swelling and moving scope in chronic injury of locomotor system patients, besides, with few side effects.
