systematic review

INTRODUCTION: Treadmill training is a popular method used in rehabilitation for patients with stroke. Only few trials compare different forms of treadmill training. METHODS: This review analysed trials which compare specific and non-specific forms of treadmill training concerning the improvement on walking velocity, walking endurance and/or community ambulation. RESULTS: One trial investigated the application of different degrees of body weight support BWS, the others the use of different treadmill velocities. Only one trial examined the effects on community ambulation. CONCLUSION: There are hints that the systematic use of treadmill velocities and/or different degrees of BWS is more effective than non-specific treadmill training regarding the improvement of walking velocity.
