The rehabilitation program for patients hospitalized with acute myocardial infarction, as practised at the Geneva Cantonal Hospital since October 1971, is described. It consists of early mobilization and ending of absolute bed rest, combined with secondary preventative measures. Mobilization commences 24 to 48 hours after the infarction and is carried out by a physiotherapist under medical supervision. A controlled study is being conducted by means of a comparison between the rehabilitated group and a group of patients kept in bed for longer than 3 weeks. The initial results, which the author outlines, are very favourable.
