Chronic low back pain has come to be considered a multifactorial problem rather than a strictly medical one. This new perception has given rise to a variety of therapeutic approaches such as the behavioral and educational approaches of the "back schools". The "interaction back school", developed from the "Swedish back school", goes beyond showing the patient how to take charge of his back problem by emphasizing the active and determinant role of the therapist in the course of his interaction with the patient. The objective of the present study was to verify the effectiveness of the interaction back school to reduce the perception of pain in comparison with a control group and a placebo intervention. The results are clear. The interaction back school is significantly superior to the simple passage of time and to a placebo interventional in the reduction of the perception of the intensity and the unpleasantness aspect of pain in the short and medium term (3 months). The results obtained are all the more important as no study to date has measured the placebo effect of this kind of treatment. In fact, the results are sufficiently interesting that we plan a follow-up verification of the long-term effects of the interaction back school.
