systematic review

INTRODUCTION: Although many variables of therapeutic success are known, some remain unclear -- particularly with regard to patients' compliance. The influence of patients' behaviour beyond therapy is an important but underestimated strategy. The aim of this review is the presentation of the current stage of research. REVIEW-METHOD: A literature search was undertaken in the PEDro and PubMed databases. The methodological quality of each included publication was assessed using PEDro-Scale. RESULTS: Nine articles met the inclusion criteria. Seven studies addressed the effect of separate strategies. Two publications deduced interventions from a fundamental model and this equates to a theory based approach. CONCLUSION: The review revealed a lack of research. There are only few comparable studies and the transfer to physical therapy practice is difficult. Furthermore, the review showed a deficit of theory-based studies regarding the phenomenon adherence, although this seems to be most important for implementation to physical therapy practice.
