The present paper describes the effect of "dynamic current" on chronic pain of myofascial origin in the neck and shoulder region. Twenty patients were treated with the ordinary procedure and compared with 20 patients in the control group receiving no electrical current. The treatment was performed daily for five days and the change in pain was evaluated by using a visual analogue and a verbal scale. No significant difference between the degree of pain reduction in the two patient groups was demonstrated, about 50% in each group experienced some degree of pain alleviation. It is concluded that diadynamic current has no effect per se on pain relief in patients with chronic myofascial syndrome.
