It was the aim of this controlled clinical study to compare the analgesic effects of electropuncture and of galvanic current in patients with activated arthrosis of the hip (n = 30) and knee joints (n = 30) of phases II to IV according to Kallgren. The therapeutic effect was evaluated by the patient and always by the same doctor. Pain intensity was evaluated using the visual analogous scale according to Huskinsson prior to onset of therapy, after the 5th and 10th therapies. The two groups were statistically evaluated using the Wilcoxon paired test. In the patient groups controlled, both measures resulted in a significant reduction in pain. At a statistical significance level of 5%, no difference was found between both groups.
