The time course of isometric knee extension torque and functional variables, eg, walking speed, were compared in twenty-four patients with osteoarthrosis of the knee during physiotherapy. A factor analysis showed very low correlations between torque and functional measurements, indicating that the time course of isometric torque is not a valid measurement to judge the outcome of treatment. Direct measurement of functional performance is a more valid procedure.
