systematic review

BACKGROUND: This research investigates if physiotherapy can be part of causal therapy in patients with acute lumbar disc herniation. METHODS: Literature search was undertaken in the databases Medline, PEDro and the Cochrane Library. Identified studies were rated based on the PEDro scale. RESULTS: Eleven relevant studies were included. Papers about traction, lumbar extension, ultrasound, low-power-laser, long-term effects and none therapy were detected. CONCLUSION: Physiotherapy has to become more part of causal therapy of patients with acute lumbar disc herniation. An enhanced care algorithm could improve the therapy management of patients with acute lumbar disc herniation.
