The aim of this study was to assess the effects of endothermotherapy in patients suffering from osteoporosis with varying bone turnover rates. A total of 150 female patients, subdivided into three groups according to the type of osteoporosis (post-menopausal with high bone turnover, post-menopausal with low bone turnover, senile), received standardised endothermic treatment; a subgroup of non-treated cases was included in each group to act as controls. The analysis of findings (using clinical, mineralometric and biohumoral parameters) after treatment revealed an improvement in terms of bone mass in the group with senile osteoporosis, stationary conditions in the group with low turnover post-menopausal osteoporosis, and deterioration in the group with high turnover post-menopausal osteoporosis. These findings lead to the supposition that the action of endothermotherapy on porotic bone can be said to accelerate bone turnover mechanisms thus leading to an improvement in those patients whom metabolic processes are pathologically slowed down (senile osteoporosis) and deterioration in those patients with an enhanced bone metabolism (high turnover post-menopausal osteoporosis).
