A randomized controlled trial was performed with the aim to verify the short-time effects of acupuncture on the human postural control. Twenty secondary progressive multiple sclerosis with paraparesis and EDSS between 3.5 to 6.0 were randomized into two groups: an acupuncture group and a group treated with sham acupuncture. The results show that the acupuncture group improved significantly in postural control. For the results evaluation both static and dynamic classical posturographic techniques and new simple ones were used. Finally, we suppose there is sufficient evidence of acupuncture's value to expand its use into conventional medicine and to encourage further studies of its physiology and clinical value.
