OBJECTIVE: A differentiation should be achieved for effects of CO2-baths applied in specific early functional combined therapy in cases of algodystrophy. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Patients suffering from acute posttraumatic algodystrophy in the hand. A four-week omission test was carried out on subjects in group B as opposed to group A. Parameters relevant for the regeneration process were statistically calculated through a chronological serial analysis. RESULTS: In the multi-variable design, the results demonstrate highly significant group differences in the regeneration progress, at which group A proves to be definitely superior to group B. Furthermore, group B displayed an additional effect of delay, going beyond the four-week initial organization of monotherapy. CONCLUSIONS: Potential effects of a CO2-bath allow better organization of exercises and better regeneration progress. Beneficial effects are obviously possible.
