systematic review

INTRODUCTION: A repetitive sitting position and computer-based working in the office facilitate the development of head, shoulder and neck pain as well as absenteeism and decreased efficiency. The aim of the present systematic review was to evaluate the effectivity of physical therapy interventions at the workplace for the improvement of head, shoulder and neck pain. METHOD: A systematic literature research was conducted in five databases up to April 2015. References were hand-searched and authors were contacted. Inclusion criteria: office work, physical therapy interventions and head, shoulder and neck pain as primary outcomes. Studies were rated using the PEDro scale and the criteria of the Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine (CEBM). RESULTS: 885 studies were identified, 14 studies were included in the analysis. The studies showed a significant and partly clinically relevant decrease of complaints. CONCLUSION: Based on available studies and methodological considerations there was low to moderate evidence for the effectivity of physical therapy interventions at the workplace for the improvement of head, shoulder and neck pain.
