INTRODUCTION: The incidence of problems associated with back pain is quite frequent, justifying its study as epidemic diseases and social. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to compare the hydrokinesiotherapy effects with the ground exercises in non specific randomized low back pain patients. METHOD: Sixty three low back pain patients filled the inclusion criteria, were selected and evaluated at CESUMAR physiotherapy course related to pain intensity, functional capability, flexibility and quality of life by an independent evaluator. After that, all of them were randomized into two treatment groups ((1) hydrokinesiotherapy, (2) land exercises). RESULTS: At the end of the twelve sessions, the patients were re examined to verify the results with the treatment. It was found a meaningful statistically improvement (p < 0.05) with the accomplishment of both protocols related to pain reduction, improvement of functional capability, flexibility and quality of life. It was not found, however, meaningful statistically differences between treating patients by hydrokinesiotherapy and ground exercises. CONCLUSION: Both courses can be offered to non specific chronic low back pain patients.
