BACKGROUND: A booster break in-volves short exercise units of an average of 10 to 15 minutes during the employees' working hours. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A systematic literature search was carried out in "PubMed" on the effectiveness of booster breaks. The search terms "employees", "workplace", "work place", "booster breaks", "moving breaks", "health promoting work breaks", and "effectiveness" were used. RESULTS: Regular participation in booster breaks has a significantly positive influence on the improvement of health behavior and awareness, on weight reduction and the social interaction of the test subjects. CONCLUSION: The results reinforce the assumption that booster breaks in company settings, especially for employees who mainly work in a sitting position, can have significantly positive health-promoting effects.
