INTRODUCTION: Total hip arthroplasty is the surgical replacement of the hip joint by an artificial implant. The hip arthroplasty surgery done in patients with fracture neck of femur, osteoarthritis of hip joint, rheumatoid arthritis and a vascular necrosis of head of femur.The aim of the study is to know the effect of cryotherapy on pain and functional activity in patients with Total Hip Arthroplasty. METHODS: 60 Patients with total hip arthroplasty were randomly divided into two groups. Group A (N = 30) received cryotherapy, group B (N = 30) control group received regular physiotherapy protocol. The severity of pain measured by Numeric Pain Rating Scale and the functional disability by modified Harrison Hip Scale Score. RESULTS: The results shows significant difference in reduction of pain and improve the functional activity in patients with total hip arthroplasty. CONCLUSION: This study concludes that application of cryotherapy in total hip arthroplasty patients will reduce pain and functional disability.
