| Consumer Summary: | WHAT'S NEW: There is uncertainty concerning the effectiveness of interventions at preventing or delaying the progression to Type 2 diabetes in women with gestational diabetes. We found that both pharmacological and lifestyle interventions were associated with reduced risk of diabetes, although the effectiveness of lifestyle interventions was not statistically significant. Interventions appeared to have the greatest impact on fasting plasma glucose, particularly in longer interventions, but inconsistent effects were seen for other continuous outcomes. Interventions to reduce hyperglycaemia after GDM appear to be worthwhile, although questions remain about how interventions affect glucose control and how to optimise interventions for this population. |
